About the Sheptytsky Institute (MASI) Choir

The MASI Choir formed in January 2015 while the Sheptytsky Institute was at Saint Paul University in Ottawa, and remains in Ottawa to this day. Its members include former students of the Institute, friends, and family, all of whom are excited to be able to sing the unique sacred music repertoire that it rehearses and performs each year. Dr. Brian Butcher, a MASI faculty member, has been the choir's conductor since July 2017.

The choir has performed at many venues and events, including the Capital Ukrainian Festival in Ottawa and St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Oakville. We hope to go further afield, perhaps to California in 2019!

Below is a video of the MASI Choir singing in concert at St. Joseph's in Oakville in November 2015. More videos are available on MASI's YouTube channel.

How to Get Involved

Anyone in the Ottawa area can get involved with the MASI Choir; all that is required is enthusiasm and a desire to learn a primarily Eastern Christian repertoire. The choir rehearses on Mondays at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Shrine in Ottawa. Please contact Dr. Brian Butcher if you are interested in joining us. We are especially in need of men (tenors and basses), though anyone is welcome to join.
